The chromebook I have is extremely lightweight and a tad bit to small for me. The OS isn't all that powerful either, so you can't run applications like adobe or other hardcore video editing software. Chromebooks seem to be more for surfing the Web and doing homework. The built-in virus protection is a plus, seems to be able to handle running multiple tabs doing various different things at one time. I wasn't all that close to my WiFi source and the signal remained rather strong. Streaming videos seemed to work rather well, no complaints with the visuals, but I'm not a fan of the camera system. However, the chromebook captures sound fairly well. The limited app store might turn some people off, but having access to all the core Google applications that I use (docs, drive, spreadsheets, Google+, etc) is fine by me. The battery life is rather decent in my opinion, I honestly got around 6 - 8 hours out of it (sorry I don't have a more precise number) before I decided to put it on the charger. The USB port is a little bit of a tight fit, I felt like I had to wrestle my USB drive in to its slot, likewise with the removal. I saved this process for last because there isn't much to say, the set up process is the fastest I've ever seen. You literally just type in or create your Google account (no you don't have to make one, as far as I know) and your finished. For me after putting in my Google account, all my preferences, saved passwords, and other things were instantly synced without asking me to do anything. I was up and running in under 3 minutes lol.

My verdict is, this chromebook is the best $135 a person could spend. Definitely makes a good Christmas gift, comes with a free one year warranty, and is easy to use. If you aren't looking for something super power but need a laptop for business, general browsing, filling out job applications, doing homework, and other office like task definitely pick this up.
Great article Lionheart! =D
ReplyDeleteI've never personally owned one, but my friend has one and I use it from time to time.
I can agree that it's definitely fast, no lie there. =D
